Black Beans Masala (Ninja Foodie)

Canned black beans turned into a delicious spicy Indian curry under 10 mins is delicious, full of flavor and works really well as lunch or dinner. Double or triple the recipe for more. Chana masala powder can either be bought from Indian groceries and even online retailers like Amazon (what is not available at Amazon these days, right? ). COOK TIME: 7 mins

YIELDS: Serves 3

Ingredients

  • Black beans cans x 2
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • Carom seeds 2 tsp
  • Onion 1, chopped
  • Garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Ginger paste 2 tsp
  • Chana masala powder 2 tbsp
  • Tomato chopped, 1 large
  • Red chili powder 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaf 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp

Method

  • Set the Ninja Foodie XL to SAUTÉ. Add cumin seeds and carom seeds. Fry onions. Add garlic and ginger paste.
  • Sauté for a minute till the raw smell goes. Add chopped tomato. Add Chana masala powder. Let the tomato turn to mushy. Use a masher if needed.
  • Add salt, turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder and red chili powder. Cook the mixture till the oil starts to float. Add in 2 cans of black beans. Add 1 cup of water.
  • Set to PRESSURE COOK. Set TIME to 2 mins. Let the pressure release by itself for 5 mins. After 2 mins turn the valve to VENT.
  • Put in chopped coriander and fresh lemon juice. Stir and serve with additional chopped coriander.
